BCC Board Meeting 07/31/2012
Date: July 31, 2012 Location: Pool Pavilion Briarcliff Community Club Board Meeting Minutes In Attendance: Gary Kidd, Renee Hicks, Bill Thomas, Glenn Romanoski, Jim Rome, Chris Alexander, Susan Senn Susan Senn—Asked about pool hours for the rest of the year. Was informed that after school begins, the pool opens at 4:00 on weekdays with regular weekend hours. Asked if adults could swim without a BCC lifeguard present during afternoons after school begins. Was informed that the Board has previously considered the general issue of allowing swimming without a lifeguard and decided to maintain long-standing policy of only allowing use of the pool with a lifeguard. This was also the position supported by BCC membership in the last member survey. Financial Report (Treasurer Gary Kidd)—YTD revenues are down about $3800 vs last year but expense are also down. Projecting a positive cash flow around $10,000 for the whole year. Insurance—The current insurance carrier will not renew our policy due to changes in their risk underwriting guidelines. The main issue is the slide and to a lesser extent the diving board. Our insurance agent found another company but the annual premium increased substantially (about $900). Gary Kidd will inquire about the premium impact of having the slide and of operating without lifeguards. He will also see if the renewal date can be adjusted to be outside the BCC swim season. IRS Notification—BCC received a letter from the IRS assessing a penalty for late filing of last year’s tax return. Bill Thomas has contacted our accounting firm and they will be contacting the IRS to get the penalty waived. Pool Operations—A number of safety-related issues were discussed. Once school starts, we will have only a few guards available and currently have a number of days where we may not be able to open the pool. Greg Snodgrass is working the issue. Slide Use—A motion was made by Bill Thomas to document the Board’s policy regarding use of pool’s slide. The motion was seconded by Glenn Romanoski and unanimously approved by voice vote. The motion: Use of the pool’s slide is restricted to persons at least 48” tall unless an adult is present at the slide ladder as a safety monitor; nothing is to be carried up the slide ladder since both hands are needed to safely climb the ladder. Rental of Pool Privileges from BCC—A motion was made by Bill Thomas; seconded by Gary Kidd and unanimously approved by voice vote. The motion: Pool privileges may only be rented from BCC for the remainder of the pool swim season. The rental rate is established as: o $600 if the rental starts in the period from opening day through June 15 o $450 if the rental starts in the period from June 16 through July 15 o $300 if the rental starts in the period from July 16 through August 15 o $150 if the rental starts after August 15 Closing Party—October 6th was selected as the date of the Closing Party with the […]
